Vice-president Margarita Popova: If I were elsewhere I would say other things

Vice-president Margarita Popova refused to share her assessment on the way Mr. Sotir Tsatsarov was elected Prosecutor General by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

It is not important whether I will see what I expect. The assessment of the society is more important. If I were elsewhere I would speak more and I would say other things. That was Margarita Popova’s reply to a journalist question if the Prosecutor General election procedure lived up to the public expectations. The vice-president added that the election of someone on a highly responsible position does not depend only on candidates, it depends on those who nominate them.

There are two levels (of responsibility) which need to meet somewhere – whatever the first one is, so the other one is expected to be. It is important that the society make an assessment in time and that it be such that those two institutions work in public benefit and work better than what we are used to witnessing so far, added Ms. Popova.

The vice-president made this statement during the press conference with president Plevneliev on the first anniversary of their mandate.
