BILI Launched its Web Platform for Civic Monitoring on Parliamentary Appointments

Bulgarian Institute for Legal Initiatives (BILI) officially launched its web platform for civic monitoring on parliamentary appointments.
The website is targeted to raising citizens’ awareness, procedures’ transparency and accountability of parliamentary appointments of the independent control and regulating institutions’ managers.
Why are we doing it?
(1) it is important that society knows who are the people to hold the high-profile state positions and how they are elected by the National Assembly;
(2) appointments procedures must be transparent to guarantee that exactly the most appropriate candidate will be appointed;
(3) thus we create a civic monitoring instrument which is a significant indicator for sustainable democracy.
Among the first procedures that BILI will monitor are the elections of a member of the Commission for Public Oversight of Statutory Auditors, deputy governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, Chief Inspector of the Inspectorate to the Supreme Judicial Council, member of the Financial Supervision Commission whose mandate ends in July 2015.
The Institute will monitor the appointments, according to the mandate of the respective position. For these purposes we prepared a schedule for the appointments.
The web platform is also a flexible instrument that lets BILI’s team to carry out effective civic monitoring beyond the initial schedule.
