Judicial Mentoring Initiative

Description:

The project is primarily focused on the following topics:

  • Judicially - driven case management;
  • Judicial ethics;
  • Judicial independence.

The know – how in the relevant areas is ensured by the participation of two senior US judges who work with their Bulgarian colleagues on daily basis in order to introduce the accordant best practices. Thus, the selected groups of judges in Sofia Regional and Sofia City Courts are assisted in implementation of practices that will lead to more rapid and fair disposition of cases, the training on the new Ethics Code etc. BILI is providing the mentoring judge with logistical support related to the implementation of the Initiative.

Funding/ Support/Partner:

US Embassy in Sofia and DoJ/OPDAT

Key events:

The Initiative is not focused on promoting its objectives and ideas on large scale conferences, but rather is directed towards their development on daily basis. Thus, two workgroups (one comprised of judges managing for trial civil cases and one - of judges managing for trial criminal cases) were established in each court during the participation of Judge Waldrip in the project. They implement the bеst practices in their day - to - day work in accordance with the Bulgarian legal tradition and legal system.
