Legalworld.bg: The Supreme Judicial Council Appoints Acting Prosecutor General

The Supreme Judicial Council shall appoint on its session on Tuesday an acting Prosecutor General until a successor to the former Prosecutor General Mr. Boris Velchev be elected.

Procedural rules for the election of a Prosecutor General are expected to be adopted on the Tuesday session. It is probable that the election procedure itself be open concurrently.
Mr. Velchev resigned from the post prior to the conclusion of his mandate due to his being appointed as a Constitutional Court Justice by the president. His resignation was accepted by the Council on Thursday, November 1.

Up to date, the alleged candidates for the Prosecutor General position are Mr. Galina Toneva, deputy Prosecutor General, and Mr. Sotir Tsatsarov, Chief Judge at the Plovdiv District Court.
