Rosen Plevneliev: The Candidates for the Prosecutor’s General Post should Present and Defend Their Concepts

Conditions for a debate are necessary, and the three candidates for Prosecutor General should present their concepts, stated the president. “Discussions, concepts, ideas and defense thereof are necessary. Only then we would be able to choose the right candidate”. The president called for the public attention to be placed upon concepts and answers to questions that need to be asked, rather than on individuals.

“I would not concentrate on these three [nominations]. If they turn out inappropriate in the course of the debate, if they don’t present the right concepts, then other stages of the election may follow”, the president pointed out. “I wish for intense debate, numerous questions asked, and clear and specific responses. Then the right decision will be made”.

Asked about the idea of amendments to the Constitutional Court Act, the president reminded that in his actions he strictly adheres to the spirit of the Constitution. The Parliament shall also carry its responsibility, said the president, and called for public debate prior to the election of a new Constitutional Court member. The election should not be result of political bargaining, but rather one of different nominations and discussions, stated the president.
