Judge Velichka Ivanova-Vlasheva /Plovdiv Military Court/ and judge Georgi Nikolov /President of Slivnitsa District Court/ were the other two candidates for the position. Judge Ushev received 21 out of 23 votes, 2 votes were cast for judge Nikolov and none for judge Ivanova-Vlasheva. "The key element of my platform was the continuous increase of expertise both in the field of Court's jurisdiction and of the people who will be working in this institution... The Specialized Criminal Court must answer to the public expectations for competence, justice and principled administration of justice.", commented judge Ushev after the election.
Bulgarian Institute for Legal Initiatives filed an official request with the Inspectorate to the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office about the disciplinary inquiry the Inspectorate made against Georgi Ushev. A day before the election at the SJC, BILI received an answer from the Inspectorate to the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office explaining that: “the evidence collected in the course of the inquiry does not lead to conclusions of a guilty conduct, meeting the prerequisites of disciplinary violation or criminal offence according to the Penalty code”.
