SJC press centre: The Supreme judicial council met with an American expert in the field of case assignment and management

During the regular session of the IT Committee on March, 13th the representatives of the SJC responded to all questions of the American expert - Mrs. Sheryl Loesch, concerning the characteristics of the specialised automated systems for random case assignment, the functioning, organization and administration of the process in Bulgaria. The Chairperson of the Committee, Mrs. Radka Petrova, expressed the opinion that the external monitoring project will be extremely helpful to the Council insofar as it will provide an independent opinion and expertise in advance of any decision on the selection and implementation of a unified system for random case assignment in courts.  In addition, the members of the Committee were at the joint opinion that currently the problems in this respect are minimized and disciplinary and administrative measures are immediately undertaken in case of any observed violations.

Another part of the discussion focused on the benefits of an introduction of a unified index for determination of the types and complexity of cases in all instances with the purpose to regulate the caseload of courts and magistrates.
